May Events In/Around Nashville
By the end of the week, it will be May, so here are some May events in and around Nashville you may wish to pursue.
May 2–4: Castalian Springs
At Bledsoe Fort Colonial Fair, you experience life as it was in the late 1700s. There are demonstrations, re-enactors dressed in attire appropriate to that age, food, music, and entertainment. A true trip back in time.
May 3: Nashville
The Annual Mayor’s Field Day will be held on at LP Field, 9 am — noon. Children 5 and older, adults of all ages and individuals of all fitness levels are invited to the free event. Tennessee Titans players, cheerleaders and mascot T-RAC will join Mayor Karl Dean for the event, which includes an educational fitness fair and on-field games. Register at www.mayorsfieldday.com.
May 3—4: Arrington
Regions Free Day at the Tennessee Renaissance Festival (300 free tickets available). This annual celebration showcases the entertainment, food and artisan treasures of 16th Century England. Tickets will be provided at the Regions Free Day table at the Festival and are limited to two per party. The event runs from 10 am – 6 pm. And even if you don’t score one of the free tickets, be sure to attend the Tennessee Renaissance Festival and tour Gwyn Castle! For more information, visit http://www.tnrenfest.com
May 10: Lebanon
Wilson County Springfest & Garden Tour. There’s a master gardener plant sale (9 am to 4 pm), and the next day is Mother’s Day – so this might be a great opportunity for you to take your mother on a garden tour and buy her the flowers she wants!
May 10: Nashville
A Prairie Home Companion – Garrison Keillor live at the Ryman.
May 15—17: Franklin
Franklin Rodeo. This event stampedes into the Williamson County Ag Center at 7 pm each night. Proceeds from this event benefit area charities. Rodeo tickets are available online at www.franklinrodeo.com and at the gate. $20 for adults, $10 for 12 and younger.
May 16: Nashville
Join the Nashville Scene for the Third Annual Margarita Festival. Enjoy bites from your favorite Gulch restaurants and sample from the city’s best margarita-makers, vote on your favorite, and a winner will be crowned at the end of this best ‘rita fest. This street festival held in the Gulch is awesome squared, rimmed with salt and served up real chill.
May 16: Nashville
The Woods at Fontanel. Great concert, but pricey tickets ($40 – $125). Willie Nelson and Family; Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas. 6:30 pm.
May 17: Nashville
The Urban Gardening Festival. Nearly 60 unique exhibitors, artisans, food trucks, societies, and suppliers will be featured at this year’s Urban Gardening Festival, 9:00 am–4:00 pm. Held at the Demonstration Garden at Ellington Agricultural Center, 5201 Marchant Drive, both admission and parking are free. The festival is sponsored by Master Gardeners of Davidson County, a nonprofit association with a mission to promote gardening and home horticulture through education, environmental stewardship, and volunteerism.
May 24: Hampshire
Cajunfest 2014. Spend the day in Amber Falls Winery and support the Boys & Girls Club of Maury County. Good Zydeco music, crawfish races, and lots of Cajun food – including fried alligator, jambalaya, and boudin. Amberfallswinery.com
May 31: Lebanon
Bark in the Park: 11:00 am – 4:00 pm, Wilson County Fairgrounds. $5 admission donation (kids free). This event benefits the newleashonlife.org, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the welfare of companion animals in our community.
