April Events Further from Nashville
In an earlier we alerted you to some important April events in and around Nashville. This list should be used when you have a little more time and you’re looking for something fun to do a little further from home. Let’s call these events “fun weekend trips”!
April 1-30, Knoxville
Once you visit the Dogwood Arts Festival in Knoxville, you probably won’t ever forget it. I still remember seeing it first some decades ago. You’ll see the beauty of white dogwoods, pink dogwoods, redbuds, azaleas of all shades all in bloom at the same time. The landscaping done by the Dogwood Arts residents is simply breathtaking. April 11-14, Chattanooga
The Four Bridges Art Festival hosts approximately 150 artists of all kinds: painters, glassworkers, jewelers, furniture designers, potters, sculptors, etc. You’ll also enjoy musical entertainment, craft fair food from local restaurants, and there’s always something fun and creative for the children. April 21-27, Paris (check dates online before making the trip)
If you love catfish – and who doesn’t? – this Spring event might already be on your list of “to do”’s. The World’s Biggest Fish Fry cooks up over five tons of catfish. You’ll have to leave room for the hush puppies and other goodies, too. Enjoy the parade, the rodeo, and the catfish races for the children. Worldsbiggestfishfry.com.
April 26-27, South Pittsburg
I have never attended the National Cornbread Festival, but this might just be the year to experience the charm and the drama of this national cornbread cook-off. You get to sample nine kinds of cornbread at “Cornbread Alley” — and one 2014 entry is called Buffalo Chicken cornbread! The festival also offers art, a beauty contest, a car show, a pancake breakfast, and more. It’s got to be fun! Nationalcornbread.com.
