OMG (Overwhelmingly Mega Gelato)
Okay, so I was reading about the Purity Ice Cream Crankin’ Contest held annually in Nashville. It’s called Miss Martha’s contest because it benefits the Martha O’Bryan Center. The center does a great deal of good to underprivileged folks throughout Nashville; they promote educational and employment opportunities for the most vulnerable of Nashville’s residents. The ice cream contest is one of their primary ways to fundraise for their organization.
This year, a woman named Mary won for the second year in a row. Her ice cream creation was called Graham Ole Opry, a basic vanilla ice cream with caramel swirls and pieces of graham crackers and peanuts. It sounds pretty tasty — but that’s not an exceptional endorsement, because I like most any kind of ice cream. Because I had “ice cream on the brain,” the next time I was at the grocery, I decided to go a little crazy. In a bold gastronomic move, I decided I’d try a new variety of cold yumminess that I had never tried before. I know, I’m living on the edge and coloring outside the lines: I opted for something other than Purity.
There it was: one of those short, squatty tubs that screams “~~~pricey~~~” and “get me anyway!” I did. A tub of Talenti brand gelato, in Caribbean Coconut, came home with me. (Important sidenote: my husband doesn’t really like coconut that much, so that meant the tub was for me, me, me!). And man, oh man, I’m going to have to be more adventurous more often. This gelato was the best stuff EVER. OMG: it was creamy, sweet, coconutty, positively scrumptious. I will not reveal how long it took for the tub’s contents to disappear. I was so impressed that I had to visit the Talenti website to see what OTHER yummo-rama flavors they might have.
Apparently, Talenti offers 24 darn good-sounding flavors. Besides the coconut gelato (of which I am now a fan), they also have Belgian Milk Chocolate and a double dark chocolate; strawberry; pistachio; lemon, butter pecan, and a luscious mint. Summer is a time to get out the ice cream machine to make your own at home, rock salt and all. But with a product this yummy, I think I’m going to devote some of my disposable income to the fine folks at Talenti.
So — what’s your favorite flavor? What makes you drool (ice cream-related, please)? Have a hankering for Wendy’s Frosties, or DQ’s Blizzards, or Sonic’s hot fudge shakes, or Steak & Shake’s halfsies, or or or… Breyers or Purity or Blue Bell or Haagen Dasz or Mayfield or … You can probably tell I’m quite the ice cream expert here… Share with us the flavors that cool you off. As for me, I’ll be chillin’ with some new friends and some new flavors. I think Toasted Almond is next on my list.
